an historical day...

Hi guys! Well, along with the stock market, I'm making some history! Today I had my first CHEERIOS! :)

Boy, it's serious business figuring out how to grab 'em and get these things in your mouth! It was like magic... when a cheerio would drop off of my tray, another one suddenly appeared! But once I got it in my mouth...

(applause!) I loved it! Mom, you can give me Cheerios any day.

And more history- today Mommy & I finally finished reading our Jesus Storybook Bible together! (a must-read! see here) The ending gave Mommy chill bumps. I'm sure we'll be reading it many more times...

round of applause...

I figured out how to clap yesterday! It's so fun!

And look what came in the mail! Another RUF campus minister in Mississippi has a girl named Caroline, so she passed these dresses along to me to wear in a few years!

And you'll never believe... I got teeth #6 AND #7 today! So now my two front teeth are coming in, as well as another tooth on the bottom. No wonder I was needing lots of Tylenol & things to bite on last week!

Think I'll give myself a round of applause...

conference pt. 1...

Well, as you can see, we got off to a shaky start on the way to our statewide RUF fall conference... one of our students braked and swerved to keep from hitting a deer on the road. (funny how we never had that problem in Lubbock) ;-) We are SO thankful everyone was fine, and it's times like these that bond you as a group, so why not stop & take a picture together to commemorate it?!

We sent most of our students ahead in other cars while we waited a few hours for a tow truck to come and help. (there wasn't even cell phone coverage where we were, so that made everything more interesting...thankfully lots of strangers driving by were stopping to help) Even as it started pouring down rain, became way past my bedtime, and Mommy was feeling a bit rattled from everything, I was still my usual delightful self. Once the tow truck and police officer came and pulled the car back onto the road, the car was totally driveable and we headed to the conference, which was only 30 minutes from Lynchburg! (in Lubbock, our students were accustomed to driving up to 7 hours to join up with other RUF's for the weekend!)

Once we arrived at the retreat center, things quickly got much better! At the conference, our group enjoyed a weekend of worship, a great speaker, small group discussions, and lots of free time to get to know each other and enjoy the beauty around us.

It was a fun getaway for our family!

conference pt. 2...

During our free time, our family hiked up a mountain with some of our students! I loved the hike up, but oh, the hike down was a different story... (I started going "downhill" right about when this picture was taken! ha!)

Nevertheless, it was a beautiful view!

We MUST mention that our student, Tricia (pictured on the left), won the Fall Conference Spelling Bee! :) We were all so proud...

What a great weekend! You mean we have to go back to real life now?!

obituary...

Lynchburg, VA--- G.E. Hotpoint Microwave, age 27, died in her home on September 23, 2008, following a long, courageous battle with technical difficulties. In other words, her "start" button stopped starting.

Ms. Hotpoint was born in March of 1981 and has resided in Lynchburg, VA throughout her life. 1981 was the year the first space shuttle (Columbia) was launched, AIDS was first diagnosed, and Prince Charles and Diana were married. She lived a long, full life.

She was most known for really heating things up. Those that knew her best called her faithful, long-suffering, and a servant to anyone around her.

Hotpoint is survived by G.E. Oven of Lynchburg, and Kenmore Refridgerator of South Carolina. She is also survived by current owners, Daddy, Mommy, and Caroline Corbett, who are known to be "appliance serial killers." Hotpoint is preceded in death by G.E. Dishwasher. She will not be easily forgotten, but she has already been easily replaced.

The family has requested that no funeral service arrangements be made. Instead, the family is headed to the mountains this weekend with the college students for our statewide RUF Fall Conference! We'll see you when we get back!

#5...

You guessed it! Tooth #5 is finally here! (top left) But don't start celebrating too soon, because #6 (my top right) is close behind!

And no way will I let you see or touch the inside of my mouth right now. Just give me something to bite on!

That's better.

Did I tell you one of my favorite new things to do is to stand and look out the window? (don't worry... Mommy is usually there with one arm ready to catch me...) I LOVE watching cars drive by!

One day soon I'm gonna tackle this big world...

the great outdoors...

Hey guys! Sorry it's been awhile since my last post! Since the weather has been nice and cool, we've been spending more time outside!

I'm fascinated by that green stuff on the ground... I almost got a handful of it in my mouth before Mommy threw the camera down! :)

Mommy & Daddy cut down ALL of their bushes in the front of our house! (this picture only shows about 1/4 of them!!) It's been hard work to cut them all down & grind up the stumps, and now they're cleaning out all of the rocks & leaves to get the soil ready to plant new stuff!

See ya soon! I think I'm gonna have an important tooth announcement tomorrow...

the beauty of adoption...

Today at our church, Marc preached a sermon on adoption, and it made me (Amy) take a look back and remember the AMAZING days surrounding Caroline's birth. So, here's a look back at some "never-before-seen" pictures from those days... :) Thanks for reminiscing with me...

Aaaaaahhhhh!!! I can't believe I'm getting ready to go "have" a baby this morning!!! (Megan, Caroline's birthmother, allowed us to be in the room at Caroline's birth and Marc cut the cord!) You can't even imagine how surreal this felt...

For 2 days after Caroline's birth, we enjoyed time in the hospital with Caroline, Megan, Megan's mom, Tricia, and Amy's family. It was such a special time for all of us to come together and surround this precious baby that we all love. Megan & Tricia, we miss you guys so much & can't wait to see you when we're in Texas in December!

48 hours after the birth, Megan signed her relinquishment papers and we signed our adoption paperwork. (It was extremely emotional, as you can imagine...) This is a pic of the first time we walked to the hospital's nursery to get OUR daughter.

I am in awe of God's plan. I am in awe of Megan's strength and selflessness. I am in awe that this adoption, as perfect as it was, is just a faint glimmer of our adoption as God's children. "For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will."- Eph. 1:4-5 "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called the children of God! And that is what we are." -1 John 3:1

around our house...

Mommy & Daddy finally got around to hanging up the metal mesh-thingy that they can hang all kinds of stuff on with little magnets! (designed & created by one of our former RUF at Tech girls who is an interior design major!) Right now it's full of black & white pictures of our friends, family, former Tech students, and special memories, so Mommy calls it her "happy wall." :)

And I LOVE eating breakfast and looking at all the pictures! It's going to help me learn and remember my family members!

Daddy finally got a great deal on what he's been dreaming about...

And I'm trying to figure out how a piece of mashed up banana gets from my fist into my mouth...
