reflections from mommy...

We made it back home to Virginia today! Caroline was an amazing traveler- she slept some on both flights, and while she was awake, some grandparents sitting behind us on the plane practically BEGGED us to let them hold her. (their grandchildren are 8 yrs. old and up, so they told us how much they missed holding babies! They fell in love with her and Caroline certainly loved smiling and jumping on their laps, too. It is so sweet to see how much joy she spreads just by flashing that smile at total strangers...)

But I just wanted to take a minute to thank all of you, friends, family, (and even those of you we haven't met!) for your prayers, encouraging words, and tears of joy alongside us! Gotcha Day was the perfect way to end a WONDERFUL visit to Lubbock. We loved seeing so many of you again, and how we have missed you! But we also left Lubbock re-energized about God's calling us to Lynchburg, and as hard as moving away has been for us these past few months, we are looking forward to "digging in" here more and continuing to settle into our new HOME. This takes time, as you understand... (for any of you who have moved recently, here is an EXCELLENT article that was so encouraging to me)

I also can't talk about our Gotcha Day without mentioning you, Megan. (Caroline's birthmother) You have made our dream come TRUE! I can't thank you enough, and I can't imagine loving my daughter (and yours!) any more than if she had come out of my own tummy. Even though she's now a Corbett, I believe it is her right and PRIVILEGE to know you, and I don't want to deprive HER of the chance to know YOU. (or deprive YOU of the chance to know HER) We look forward to seeing you again in December!

Sweet Caroline, we "gotcha." Mommy & Daddy love you more than you'll ever know. You know, some people tell us that you're a lucky baby to have us as your parents, but we know the truth... WE'RE the lucky ones. ;-)

  1. Beautifully put. I agree with your comment about feeling lucky to be the parent. I thank God for Vincent daily and feel extremely lucky to be his mommy.
